Turning 60

Turning 60

Lynne had reason to celebrate,
Sixty was coming fast,
Time for that very special trip,
Somewhere memories last.

Pump house Point was her place of choice
Located on Lake St Claire,
In the centre of Tasmania.
Lynne had never been there.

Lake St Claire is the deepest lake
In the Southern Hemisphere.
Fringed by rugged mountain ranges,
River Derwent source is there.

The pump house was built in the Forties
To supplement river flow,
Feeding power stations downstream,
In drought, when river’s low.

Pump House Point was never used
Except for maintenance,
Decommissioned, became a hotel,
A path to prominence.

Nineteen luxury suites, honesty bars,
Meals to eat at leisure.
Set at the end of a long pier,
Designed just for pleasure.

Lynne was totally ecstatic,
Enjoying beautiful places
With her husband, and best friend Les,
So much she embraces.

They rode the e-bikes round the lake,
Exploring bushland sights,
The serenity of the water,
All of nature’s delights.

The most funny moments of all
Were “rowing “ on the bay,
The rotten, wretched dinghy
Was sure to have its way!

The art of rowing proved too tough
To master in one day,
Lynne’s left was stronger than her right
She Zigged and zagged away.

Loops and circles were scored deeply
On the glassy surface
Of the waters of Lake St Claire.-
She was enjoying this.

Lynne’s peals of laughter filled the air,
Echoing across the lake
Enjoying her time on the water
Despite the wobbly wake.

Les said that he would like to try
To steer the vessel straight,
Gingerly he changed position
With Lynne, his loving Mate.

Les said, “This can’t be hard to row!”
Then pulled upon his oars,
But that wretched dinghy wobbled
From side to side and more.

Both decided, it’s time to end
This short lived rowing bug
Erratically returned to shore
Laughing, but feeling smug.

This long tale has yet to end,
They visited “The Wall”,
Where huge carvings in Huon Pine,
Told their tale to all.

Returning to Lyell Highway
A decision to be made.
Go left or right to Launceston
“Right”, said Les, unafraid.

Alack, alas the decision
Wrong, they headed west,
Along the road to Queenstown
Adventurous at best!

All day long they drove at pace
Over mountain roadways
To the North West and Launceston,
Arriving late that day

Lynne met the northern family,
With just minutes to spare.
Such a journey to remember,
Adventures, beyond compare!
