Beginning Retirement

September 2001, So . . .

“The time has come” it must be said,
“To think of many things”:
Of camps and boats and drawing bits;
Of birds upon the wing, –
And as the days of work retreat
My heart begins to sing!

I dream of Melaleuca,
Bathurst Harbour in the sun
Exploring all the rivers – Observe how free they run!
See kingfishers and parrots – –
In a new life just begun!

Then there’s August in the Simpson
A vast and desert land
With a jewelled sky at night time
Quite magnificent and grand.
Yes, there’s much about the outback
I want to know and understand.

Then, of course, at university
There’s some research to do,
I’m beginning to think that
Opportunities are starting to accrue.
Retirement will be a great adventure
With lots of things to do.
