Launceston Teachers College, July one,
Nineteen sixty-one, sixty years ago
My teacher training, on that day, had begun
Laying the foundations for all that followed.
I was but a boy of seventeen years
When the first class of men was enlisted,
A disparate group of twenty-four peers,
Whose induction into teaching was assisted.
My teaching career spanned four decades
Proud to be a principal focused on learning
Among staff, and kids across primary grades,
Having fun, meeting needs, growing, discerning.
But the rewards of teaching are on display
When I meet former students along the way.
