Joy married Bill
At Smithton
We celebrate a partnership
Of six decades or three score years.
Our commitment to each other
Is enduring, caring, sincere.
We’ve both faced our challenges,
But support for each is clear.
Both young teachers at Smithton,
Over sixty years ago,
Our lesson planning together,
Helped us come to know
Our caring and strength of purpose,
As our love began to grow.
We taught in schools around the state,
Moving from town to town,
Each developing their expertise,
Joy in Mathematics had grown,
Working across the nation,
As “Mrs Maths” she was known.
I was a principal in schools
For over thirty years,
A job I thoroughly enjoyed.
We both would share and hear
Of the challenges that each faced,
And the courses each would steer.
We’re proud of both of our sons
And the careers undertaken,
Our daughter-in-law is special,
The grandkid’s world awakens.
Though our family is quite small,
Our love has never shaken.
‘Today’ for us is precious
We’ll take each one as it comes
Without a lot of fanfare,
Or the loud beating of drums.
We’ll spend more years together,
Enjoying each one as it comes.
